The Covenant

Six promises, and the diagnosis they come from. This is the plain-English version — the binding text ships in our terms.

The revenue system broke first. Everything else followed.

The problems artists live with — the volume grind, the snippet bait, the data grabs, the catalog sell-offs, AI trained on scraped work — didn’t happen because the industry got evil overnight. They happened because music stopped being something you could sell. Streaming priced a song at a third of a penny, paid into a pool, months late. A song stopped being a product and became a lottery ticket.

And when the work itself earns nothing, everything around the work gets sold instead. Your release schedule becomes content strategy — 120,000 uploads a day chasing an algorithm. Your marketing becomes snippet bait, which taught the world your unfinished work is free raw material. Your catalog becomes the asset of last resort, sold in a hard year to a fund that saw its value in your own data before you did. Your recordings become AI training food, priced at zero because that’s what the register said they were worth. Even your distributor’s real product quietly became you — your data, your behavior, your opt-ins.

That’s the actual disease. The rest are symptoms.

Our answer is the register.

The Exchange exists to make the music itself sellable again — to the people who use music: creators, businesses, film, producers. Real prices, set by you. Money split to everyone on the song the second it settles. When the work earns at the register, nobody needs to sell the artist. Every promise below is just that principle, written down.

01

Your masters are yours. We will never own your catalog.

We don't buy catalogs, we don't broker them, and we will never use your earnings data to approach you — or anyone — about acquiring your songs. A platform that can see your song taking off before you do must never be allowed to bid on it. Ours can't, by covenant.

02

Your music never trains AI without your per-song switch.

AI licensing is a switch on each song: off by default, priced by you, reversible forever. We will never train models on your catalog, license it for training, or bury consent in terms of service. Off means off.

03

We will never sell your data.

Your usage data has exactly one job here: paying everyone on the song the second money moves. It is not a product, not a signal we sell, not a scouting report for anyone's acquisition fund.

04

Every cent in the open.

Every sale splits at the register — instantly, penny-exact, to every signed contributor. Every license carries a receipt anyone can verify. No statements you need a forensic accountant to read.

05

Non-exclusive, forever. Zero lock-in.

Keep your distributor, your PRO, your publisher, your Bandcamp. Leave any day with your masters, your splits on record, and your receipts — they verify publicly whether you're our customer or not.

06

If we are ever sold, the covenant is part of the deal.

We watched a $2B distributor sale teach artists that infrastructure changes hands. Because everything here is non-exclusive and nothing of yours is owned by us, there is nothing a buyer could hold over you — and these promises are written to survive us.
